Proper hygiene of the orthodontic appliance cabinet, like its periodic control, is an essential practice if you want to avoid tooth decay, gum inflammation and halitosis. The residues of saliva that lurk between the spaces and the grooves of the appliance become breeding grounds for many privileged microorganisms responsible for disorders described above. Although it may seem boring, thoroughly clean the machine is a gesture that has become a daily habit. Let’s see how to do it.
After having marched from the mouth before and place it in the box, the dental appliance should be brushed and dipped in a glass of hot water where it was made to dissolve a specific effervescent tablet, available in pharmacies or supermarkets.
The tablet, contained in packages of about thirty pieces, has ingredients such as sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, potassium and other compounds, which provide disinfection and protect metal parts from corrosion. To be effective, must always be preceded by brushing, which completes the action. The dive must be maintained for fifteen minutes, but can be extended for the whole night.
Once the period of time required, the unit must first be rubbed with the solution contained in the glass or with toothpaste and then rinsed under running tap water. To prevent an accidental fall break the unit while it is washing, it is good to fill the sink with water in order to soften the blows. The operations must be carried out with clean hands.
The contents of the glass cannot be ingested or used as a mouthwash to be put in the mouth to rinse, but it should be thrown away every time. At this point, the machine can be put in Serbia for the next use. The same treatment is suitable for the cleaning of movable bridges and dentures.
In emergency situations or when the tablets are not available can be used to cleaning with toothbrush, toothpaste or baking soda to rinse with care. Solvents, wire brushes are absolutely contraindicated because they ruin the resins that make up the equipment, compromising the success of orthodontic correction and the state of health of the masticatory system.
